Founded on December 23, 1991, the GEHIMAB [ Group of Studies on the History of Mathematics in medieval Bougie – see Historia Mathematica 20 (1993), 204] ) is a nonlucrative association. Its principal mission is to contribute to the exhumation of testimonys on the scientific activities at Béjaia, of the medieval time at the XIX-2 nd century ( commercial Mathematics, Sciences of Calculation , Science of the Heritages, Astronomie, Astrologie, Algebra, Methods of Navigation , Logic, Music,...).

Work and activities of the GEHIMAB’s Association were the subject of several tens of articles in the press (see lately the dispatches of the A.F.P. – Agence France Presse on September 23, 2000 and that of the A.P.S.- Algérie Presse Service of October 08, 2000) and in international specialized reviews [ the next scientific articles will be published in year 2001 in Annali of the IUO – Sezione Orientale ( Napoli), in the Book « Men and Women of Kabylie , Edisud (Paris), pp. 132 – 135 and in the Book «Deux savants passionnés du Maghreb » Arab’s Word Institute and Unesco Ed., pp. 67 - 70].

In particular, the action of the GEHIMAB’s Association was worth to him to be indicated by the authorities and certain international institutions for specific missions : appointment at the Orientation’s Council of the Culture’s House, designation in the Greeting’s Committee at Béjaia of the U.N.O’s Panel ( Mario Soares, Simone Veil …), The Vice Presidente of Eximbank, designation like emissary attached to international public institutions, …

In the same way , this action was worth to the GEHIMAB’s Association several distinctions : 

• The medal of the University of Pisa ( Italy), in 1994 , for its work on the relation of the famous Italian mathematician Léonardo Fibonacci ( 1170-1240) with the town of Béjaia ;
• The inauguration of the Museum’s section of the Math Forum’s part of the international Publisher Gauthier – Villars by an « electronic article » at the hundredth anniversary of died of the mathematicien Eugene Dewulf (http://www.gauthier-villars.fr)
• The medal of the town of Lisbon (Portugal), in 1997, for its action of popularization of the relations of the late Portuguese President Manual Texeira Gomés ( death in 1941) with the town of Béjaia ;
• The Mouloud Mammeri’s recognition price, in 1997 , for the discovery , the restoration and the valorization of Afniq n Ccix Lmuhud ( first and single erudite library of manuscripts catalogued of the Kabylie) ; 
• The appointment at the Committee of the El-Djazair-Beni Mezghena’s Millenium, in 1999, for its contribution to the succes of the manifestation « Algiers celebrates science » ;
• The appointment at the International College of experts of the CPVHM ( Standing Conference of the Historical Cities of the Mediterranean, sits at Alghero-Italia).

Lastly , this action of the GEHIMAB’s Association made it possible to make discover many cultural objects ( historical Iconographie, Graphic art and Picture gallery Emile Aubry, Bejaia’s Manuscrits , role of the Town in Twinning…), to valorisation of many sites and monuments of the area ( Zawiyya of Chellata, punic’s caveau, Zawiyya of Sidi El Hadj Hessaïne, Aheddad..) and led to the adhesion of the town of Béjaia to the Standing Conference of the Historial Cities of the Mediterranean (1999), to its integration in the Euro-Mediterranean Commission (2000) and to its fundamental contribution to many international operations (World Mathematical Year 2000 by the International Mathematical Union,…).
